Colombia: Over 3,200 Minors Have Disappeared Due to Armed Conflict

BOGOTA, February 13, 2025 – More than 3,200 minors have gone missing in Colombia as a result of circumstances linked to the country’s armed conflict, according to a government agency report released on Wednesday. This figure was revealed by the Search Unit for Persons Reported Missing (UBPD) in observance of the anniversary of the signing of the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which prohibits the involvement of children in armed conflicts.
The UBPD reported that, among the missing minors, there are 88 girls, 182 boys, and 2,914 adolescents. The UBPD is one of several organizations established under the peace agreement signed between the government and the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in 2016.
In total, the agency has documented over 124,000 individuals reported missing since the onset of the armed conflict in Colombia in the 1960s. To date, only 2,200 of these individuals’ remains have been recovered.
