Sudanese health authorities reported 1,375 new cholera cases and 23 deaths in Khartoum State on Wednesday, according to local media citing the Ministry of Health.
“We have observed a rise in cholera cases in the state, with 1,375 infections recorded on Wednesday,” said Mohamed Al-Tijani, Director of Emergency and Epidemic Response at the Khartoum State Ministry of Health.
He stated that 1,116 patients are currently being treated in isolation centers. The death toll has declined due to medical interventions, with only 23 fatalities recorded on the same day.
Isolation centers have been activated, and four shelter centers established in heavily affected areas to ensure early detection, treatment, and reduction of mortality, Al-Tijani added.
According to the latest official statistics, Sudan has recorded a total of 60,993 cholera cases and 1,632 deaths.
In August 2024, Sudanese authorities declared cholera a national epidemic. The country’s health infrastructure remains one of the sectors most severely impacted by the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which began in April 2023.
