Chinese Exports to the U.S. Drop by 17.6% in April

Chinese exports to the United States took a significant hit, dropping by 17.6% in April compared to March, according to official statistics released on Friday. Last month, exports to the U.S. came in at $33.0 billion, down from $40.1 billion in March, as reported by China’s General Administration of Customs.
Trade between the world’s two largest economies has nearly ground to a halt since the U.S. president rolled out multiple rounds of hefty tariffs on Beijing. Since Donald Trump took back the White House in January, his administration has brought in new tariffs totaling 145% on goods coming from China, with sector-specific measures pushing cumulative tariffs on certain products as high as 245%.
In response, Beijing has hit back with tariffs of 125% on American imports entering China, along with additional targeted measures.
