Chinese Ambassador to Algiers Highlights Prospects for Cooperation Between Algeria and China

ALGIERS, 4 Dec 2025 – The Chinese ambassador to Algeria, Dong Guangli, said on Wednesday in Algiers that the year 2026 will mark a pivotal stage in the cooperation process between Algeria and China, especially as it coincides with the start of the implementation of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, alongside the momentum of building the “New Algeria.”

Speaking at a press conference held at the Chinese Embassy in Algeria, the diplomat explained that the two countries “stand at the dawn of a historic phase, opening broader prospects for joint development.”

He added that Algeria and China are “two sincerely friendly countries and two natural partners, united by a shared vision of development.”

The Chinese ambassador also reaffirmed his country’s readiness to “work hand in hand with Algeria to ensure the effective implementation of the major convergences reached by the leaders of both countries, strengthen exchanges between the two peoples, deepen cooperation in all fields, and elevate the Algerian-Chinese comprehensive strategic partnership to a higher level.”

On this occasion, the diplomat recalled the momentum that marked bilateral relations over the past year, particularly through “the strengthening of political relations between the two countries thanks to regular contacts between high-level officials, continued exchanges of governance expertise, and close coordination on regional and international issues.”

Economically, the ambassador noted that “concrete partnerships between the two sides have deepened significantly,” pointing out that the volume of trade remained at a high level this year, with positive indicators suggesting it will surpass last year’s levels.

He added that the Algerian-Chinese Investment Forum was “a clear success, crowned by the signing of several agreements involving projects worth over 2 billion USD, while Chinese investments in Algeria are nearing 7 billion USD.”

He also highlighted “progress in various projects, the launch of direct flights, and advances recorded in mining, renewable energy, and digitalization.”

Culturally, the year was marked by “a strong boost in exchanges,” the ambassador said, including the opening of the first Confucius Institute at the University of Algiers 2 and the organization of cultural events and language competitions aimed at strengthening the historic ties between the two peoples.

For his part, the president of the Algerian-Chinese Friendship Association, Smaïl Debeche, spoke about the human dimension characterizing Algerian-Chinese relations since China’s support for the liberation struggle, stressing that these relations “further deepened after independence through shared values and aligned views on regional and international issues.”

The director of the National Museum of Moudjahid, Hassan Maghdouri, also addressed Algerian-Chinese relations, recalling China’s support during the liberation struggle, notably through its official ties with the Provisional Government of the Algerian Republic (GPRA).
