The Chinese Ambassador to Algeria, Dong Guangli, praised Algeria’s significant contributions to resolving regional and international challenges, emphasizing the alignment of positions between the two nations, particularly regarding conflict resolution through dialogue and peaceful means.

During a press conference held on Wednesday at the Chinese embassy in Algiers, the ambassador remarked that “no one can overlook the dynamism of Algerian diplomacy and its fruitful outcomes.” He added that China “values Algeria’s crucial role in addressing regional and international matters.”

The Chinese diplomat asserted that both his country and Algeria “share similar international positions,” especially pertaining to “the respect for state sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, peaceful conflict resolution, and the fight against terrorism, violent extremism, drug trafficking, and organized crime.” He emphasized that Sino-Algerian relations, “characterized by maturity and flexibility, aim to foster greater stability, peace, and development globally.”

Moreover, he commended “the commitment of both countries to enhance their strategic partnership through the implementation of all agreements made by the two leaders” during President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s state visit to China in July 2023, reaffirming that “Algeria is a dependable strategic partner for China in Africa, the Arab world, and the Mediterranean region.”

Additionally, he noted that the economic and commercial partnership between Algeria and China “has recently strengthened across various sectors, including energy, finance, the green economy, modern technologies, and industry, as well as human resource training.” He acknowledged that “the improvement of the business climate in Algeria due to the new investment law has heightened the interest of Chinese economic operators in investment opportunities within Algeria.”

Furthermore, the Chinese official reiterated his country’s “clear stance” on the Western Sahara issue, noting that China “supports efforts to achieve a sustainable and just resolution to the Western Sahara question within the framework of international legality, as well as the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination.” He added that China “works with all parties, including Algeria, to support the Palestinian people and pursue a fair solution to this just cause.”

In turn, the president of the Algeria-China Friendship Association, Smaïl Debeche, recalled that Algerian-Chinese relations are “historic and profound,” forged in “a common struggle against colonialism.” He highlighted “the convergence of the two countries’ positions on all regional and international issues, particularly the Palestinian cause, and their support for international legality in resolving the Western Sahara issue.”
