Chinese Ambassador Celebrates Strategic Partnership with Algeria

The new ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Algeria, Dong Guangli, has lauded the longstanding friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Algeria, which was the first Arab nation to establish such a relationship.

During a ceremony held on Tuesday at the embassy in Algiers, attended by Yang Wanming, president of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), the Chinese ambassador remarked that China and Algeria “are natural partners united by a deep-rooted friendship, with Algeria being the inaugural country to form a comprehensive strategic partnership with China.”

The ambassador further emphasized that “the nature of relations between Algeria and China is distinct, particularly in light of the historical ties” that bind the two nations, characterized by “a rich legacy of solidarity and cooperation.” He recalled that China was “the first non-Arab state to recognize the Provisional Government of the Algerian Republic (GPRA).”

In acknowledging “Algeria’s unwavering support for China’s reintegration into the United Nations in 1971,” the ambassador highlighted several joint projects that exemplify the fruitful collaboration between Algeria and China.

He reminded attendees that Chinese President Xi Jinping reiterated in his congratulatory message to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune following his re-election in September 2024, the commitment to “continue enhancing mutual political trust, deepen essential cooperation, and explore broader opportunities” between the two countries, expressing a desire to work toward “elevating relations to promote the comprehensive strategic partnership at the highest level.”

For his part, the president of CPAFFC praised Algeria’s pivotal role in Africa and the Mediterranean, underscoring that “the thorough and concrete mutual cooperation between Algeria and China across various fields has become a model to emulate.”

He called for the establishment of exchange bridges between the two peoples, the utilization of friendship associations, and the intensification of visits between the two nations.
