China Urges Washington to End “Erroneous” Approach of Demanding Talks While Threatening Sanctions

The Chinese Embassy in the United States has criticized Washington’s approach of calling for dialogue with Beijing while simultaneously threatening new restrictive measures, describing it as “erroneous” and counterproductive. The embassy urged the US to correct its stance and show genuine sincerity in future talks.

Embassy spokesperson Liu Pengyu emphasized that the previous four rounds of economic and trade consultations demonstrated that both countries can find solutions based on mutual respect and equal dialogue. “The US cannot demand talks while simultaneously threatening and intimidating with new restrictive measures,” Liu stated, adding that both sides have maintained communication within the framework of the China-US Economic and Trade Consultation Mechanism and recently held working-level discussions.

Liu urged Washington to “correct its erroneous practices as soon as possible, demonstrate sincerity in talks, and work with China halfway.” He reaffirmed that China remains open to dialogue but will firmly respond to hostility: “Regarding tariff and trade wars, China’s position is consistent. If there’s a fight, we’ll fight to the end; if there’s a talk, the door is open.” He stressed that China and the United States share broad common interests and that cooperation benefits both sides, while conflict harms both.
