China Slams US Visa Revocations as ‘Unreasonable and Discriminatory’

Beijing strongly criticized the US decision to revoke visas of Chinese students, labeling it “unreasonable and discriminatory.” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning stated that the move, justified by ideology and national security concerns, seriously harms the rights of Chinese students and disrupts people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
The reaction came following US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s announcement that the State Department will work with the Department of Homeland Security to aggressively revoke visas for Chinese students, especially those with ties to the Chinese Communist Party or studying in sensitive fields. Rubio also said the US plans to tighten visa criteria for future applicants from China and Hong Kong.
Mao expressed firm rejection of the US action and said China has lodged a formal protest. She condemned the US for politicizing the issue, accusing Washington of hypocrisy regarding its claims to uphold freedom and openness. Mao warned that such actions would damage the US’s global image and national reputation.
