China Renews Blue Alert as Cold Wave Sweeps Across the Country

China’s meteorological authority renewed a blue alert for a cold wave on Thursday, warning that freezing air will sweep across most parts of the country in the coming days.
According to the National Meteorological Center (NMC), temperatures in the Huanghuai region—which includes parts of Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, and Shandong provinces—will drop sharply by over 10 degrees Celsius. Most areas north of this region will experience similar declines, while southern regions will see temperatures fall by 4 to 6 degrees, with some areas facing drops of more than 10 degrees.
Additionally, the NMC issued a yellow alert for strong winds from Thursday to Friday, affecting northern China, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Tibet, Qinghai, the Huanghuai region, and coastal areas, including the Bohai Sea, Yellow Sea, East China Sea, Taiwan Strait, Bashi Channel, and the South China Sea. China’s weather alert system has four levels, with red being the most severe, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.
