China Reaffirms Its Support for Palestinian Cause

President Xi Jinping reaffirmed his country’s support for the just Palestinian cause, stressing that the Palestinian issue “affects international fairness, justice and regional stability.”

In a congratulatory message sent on the occasion of a UN meeting held on Tuesday to mark the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People (29 November), Xi said that “the Palestinian issue lies at the heart of the Middle East conflict and affects international fairness, justice and regional stability.”

As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China “firmly supports the just cause of the Palestinian people in restoring their legitimate national rights,” he reiterated, adding that China “will continue to work with the international community to make unremitting efforts for a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of the Palestinian issue at an early date.”

He also called for greater international consensus and proactive measures to “guarantee a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire in Gaza; prevent the resurgence of conflict; swiftly improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza, and alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.”

Xi stressed that the resolution of the Palestinian question must be based on a two-state solution, under the principle of “Palestinians governing Palestine,” respecting the will of the Palestinian people, and taking into account legitimate regional concerns.

He added that the Palestinian question represents a test of the effectiveness of the global governance system and called on the international community to address the root causes, assume responsibility, correct historical injustices, and uphold fairness and justice.
