China Raises Tariffs on All U.S. Imports to 84% as Trade War Deepens

China on Wednesday announced a sharp increase in tariffs on all U.S. imports, raising them to 84% in a significant escalation of the ongoing trade war with Washington. The move comes in response to a new round of tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump on both allies and rivals, with U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods now reaching 104%, effective immediately.
“The U.S. escalation of tariffs against China is a mistake on top of a mistake; it seriously infringes upon China’s legitimate rights and interests and gravely undermines the rules‑based multilateral trading system,” the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council said, as reported by the state-run Global Times.
In addition to the tariff hike, Beijing announced it had added six U.S. companies to its “unreliable entity list” and placed 12 more American entities under export controls, further signaling its intent to retaliate against what it views as aggressive U.S. economic policies.
Despite mounting global concerns and market instability, President Trump has refused to reverse course on his tariff strategy, which continues to strain international trade relations.
