China Highlights EU Relations as a Source of Stability Amid Global Tensions

China emphasized on Monday that its relationship with the European Union (EU) would provide much-needed stability in a turbulent world, particularly amidst rising tensions between the EU and the United States. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that in an era marked by unilateralism and protectionism, the international community is yearning for peace and stability, and hopes that China and the EU will emerge as constructive forces in a changing world.
Guo’s comments come amid increasing friction between the EU and the Trump administration, driven by the war in Ukraine, NATO concerns, and trade and tech disputes. Noting that 2025 marks 50 years of diplomatic relations between China and the EU, Guo highlighted Beijing’s commitment to strengthening their partnership, enhancing communication, and addressing global challenges together.
Addressing the ongoing trade tensions, particularly with the United States, Guo reiterated China’s position that trade wars harm the interests of all countries, while also responding to President Trump’s comments about the BRICS bloc, affirming its importance as a platform for cooperation among emerging markets and developing nations.
