China: Discovery of Over 120 Mineral Deposits in 2023

A total of 124 mineral deposits were discovered in China in 2023, according to a report released by the Chinese Ministry of Natural Resources.

The report, titled “China Natural Resources 2024,” was presented during the 26th China Mining Conference and Exhibition currently underway in Tianjin, northern China.

It highlights advancements made since 2023 in geological and mineral studies, assessments, exploration, development of mineral resources, and ecological restoration efforts for mines, among other areas.

Among the newly discovered 124 mineral deposits, 16 are limestone deposits suitable for construction, while 10 are graphite deposits, making them one of the most prevalent types.

The report also notes significant breakthroughs in oil and gas exploration, with new layers and areas identified in major oil and gas basins such as Tarim, Junggar, and Bohai Bay.

In addition to oil and gas, substantial progress has been achieved in mineral exploration in the sectors of coal, copper, gold, lithium, and phosphorite.
