China Condemns U.S. Veto of UN Gaza Ceasefire Resolution, Calls It Obstruction of Peace

NEW YORK – China strongly condemned the United States for vetoing a UN Security Council draft resolution that called for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, as well as the lifting of restrictions on humanitarian aid to the besieged enclave, which has endured a genocidal Zionist aggression since October 2023.
China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, voiced deep disappointment with the outcome of Wednesday’s vote. “The draft resolution reflected the most urgent appeals of the people of Gaza and the overwhelming voice of the international community,” he said.
Fu accused the U.S. of once again abusing its veto power, extinguishing “a glimmer of hope” for over two million civilians trapped in Gaza. “The United States must answer to the international community,” he stated, warning that Washington’s repeated obstruction is the root cause of the Security Council’s failure to end the war in Gaza.
“No single permanent member’s veto can stop the pursuit of peace,” Fu emphasized. He called on the U.S. to fulfill its responsibilities as a permanent member of the Council, abandon political calculations, and support measures to end the violence.
Fu concluded by reaffirming China’s readiness to work with the international community to help end the war in Gaza, ease the humanitarian catastrophe, implement the two-state solution, and achieve a just and lasting resolution to the Palestinian question.
The resolution failed to pass despite receiving 14 votes in favor, with only the United States voting against it, thereby exercising its veto and blocking its adoption.
