China Calls for Sustainable Financial Support for AU-Led Peace Operations

UNITED NATIONS – China has reaffirmed its commitment to providing adequate, predictable, and sustainable financial support for African Union (AU)-led peace operations, Fu Cong, China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, stated on Monday. Speaking at the UN Security Council open debate on peacekeeping operations, Fu emphasized the need to strengthen Africa’s ability to maintain peace and stability independently, while enhancing support for regional arrangements in Africa. He expressed China’s hope that Security Council resolution 2719, which outlines a framework for these efforts, will be implemented soon.
Fu highlighted the outcomes of the recent Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, held in Beijing, where China pledged to partner with Africa in advancing modernization through ten key partnership actions over the next three years. Among these actions is the Partnership Action for Common Security, through which China will work closely with African nations to bolster security and defense capabilities. This initiative includes training military personnel, police, and law enforcement officers, as well as promoting efforts towards an “action for a mine-free Africa.”
Fu further stressed that China will continue to stand alongside Africa as a dedicated partner, committed to fostering high-quality development and ensuring greater security across the continent. He reiterated China’s long-term commitment to supporting Africa’s peace and stability, both financially and through collaborative efforts to enhance regional security.
