China Calls for “Peaceful Coexistence” Following Trump’s Election Victory

In the wake of Donald Trump’s re-election as U.S. President over Vice President Kamala Harris, China emphasized its commitment to a “peaceful coexistence” with the United States. Speaking at a regular briefing, Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning underscored Beijing’s dedication to an approach centered on “mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation.”

“China’s policy toward the United States has been consistent,” Mao stated, affirming China’s desire to maintain stable and productive relations with Washington. She notably refrained from directly addressing Trump’s victory but stressed that China’s objectives remain focused on cooperation and mutual benefit.

Observers see China’s response as a careful attempt to reset the tone for bilateral relations as the two powers prepare for a new phase in their complex relationship under Trump’s renewed leadership. China’s stance reflects its aim to seek diplomatic solutions and promote economic ties amidst ongoing geopolitical challenges.
