Chile joins Gaza genocide case against Zionist entity at ICJ

The International Court of Justice announced on Friday that Chile has formally requested to join the genocide case initiated by South Africa against the Zionist entity, citing its aggression towards the Palestinian people.

In a statement, the court clarified that it received Chile’s request under the United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, established in 1948.

The rationale behind Chile’s request is its “desire to present its views regarding the interpretation of the relevant provisions of the convention related to this case.”

With this action, Chile becomes the eighth country to declare its intention to join the genocide case concerning Gaza, following Nicaragua, Colombia, Libya, Mexico, Palestine, Spain, and Turkey.

Since October 7, 2023, the Zionist entity has been conducting a devastating assault on Gaza, resulting in over 136,000 Palestinian casualties, the majority of whom are women and children, alongside more than 10,000 individuals reported missing amid widespread destruction and famine.

Despite international condemnation, the Zionist entity continues its aggressive actions, disregarding the United Nations Security Council’s resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire, as well as the orders from the International Court of Justice to take measures to prevent acts of genocide and to improve the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
