Chess: Indian Dommaraju Gukesh Crowned New World Champion

Eighteen-year-old Indian chess prodigy Dommaraju Gukesh emerged victorious on Thursday in the final long game of the World Championships against reigning champion Ding Liren of China, becoming the youngest player to ever secure this prestigious title.
With both players tied before the 14th game, which appeared destined for a draw, Gukesh capitalized on a blunder made by his opponent on the 55th move. This misstep provided Gukesh with a decisive advantage that ultimately led to Ding’s resignation. Gukesh is only the second Indian to claim this title, following in the footsteps of Viswanathan Anand.
