CHAN 2024 (Postponed to 2025) – Algeria and South Africa Settle for 1-1 Draw

The Algerian national team, made up of local players, ended up in a 1-1 draw against South Africa on Friday at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala. This match was part of the second round of Group C in the African Nations Championship CHAN-2024, which has been pushed back to 2025.

The “Greens” got off to a strong start, taking the lead with a goal from Belhocini in the 29th minute. However, South Africa equalized just before halftime with a strike from Kutumela in the 45th minute.

In their opening game of this eighth edition, Algeria kicked off the tournament with a solid 3-0 victory over Uganda, while South Africa sat out the first round.

With this result, Algeria temporarily sits at the top of the group standings with 4 points, just one point ahead of Guinea, who are set to take on Uganda on Friday at 6:00 PM. Niger is currently on a bye this round.

Having a break on the third matchday scheduled for Monday, August 11, the Algerian national team will next face Guinea on Friday, August 15, at 3:00 PM, before wrapping up the group stage against Niger on Monday, August 18, at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi at 6:00 PM.

According to the competition format, the top two teams from each group will move on to the quarter-finals, which are slated for August 22 and 23.
