Chaib Leads Algeria’s Delegation at 163rd Ordinary Session of Arab League Council for FMs

Sofiane Chaib, the the Algerian Secretary of State to Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of National Community Abroad, led the Algerian delegation at the 163rd session of the Arab League Council of Foreign Ministers. This session took place at the General Secretariat of the League under the presidency of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, as stated in a release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs on Wednesday.
The agenda focused on developments concerning key Arab issues, with the Palestinian cause remaining central to the Arab Nation. Other topics included the situations in Syria, Sudan, and Somalia, as well as processes related to Arab cooperation with regional and international partners, according to the statement.
The meeting offered an opportunity to reaffirm Algeria’s unwavering commitment to the rights of the Palestinian people, particularly in light of the critical circumstances they currently face. The delegation called for an end to aggression, the delivery of humanitarian aid, and support for the reconstruction of areas devastated by the Zionist actions. Additionally, Algeria expressed its backing for efforts aimed at granting Palestine full membership status at the United Nations and establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with Al-Quds as its capital.
The discussions also highlighted Algeria’s dedication to enhancing collective Arab action and reinforcing the principle of solidarity in addressing regional challenges. The Arab League Council acknowledged Algeria’s efforts as a non-permanent member of the Security Council in support of the Palestinian cause and welcomed the adoption of Algeria’s guiding principles regarding the financing of terrorism by the United Nations Security Council.
Furthermore, the council commended Algeria for successfully presiding over negotiations that resulted in the adoption of a comprehensive international convention aimed at combating the use of information and communication technologies for criminal purposes, as noted in the ministry’s statement.
On the sidelines of the 163rd ordinary session, the Secretary of State participated in a meeting of the Arab Ministerial Committee on Al-Quds, where he reaffirmed Algeria’s steadfast position regarding Al-Quds and its support for international efforts to preserve the city’s identity and to halt the Zionist violations against this holy site, the statement concluded.
