Chaib Chairs Opening of High-Level Workshop on Diaspora’s Role in National Development

ALGIERS – Algerian Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of the National Community Abroad, Sofiane Chaib, alongside Lalini Veerasamy, Head of the International Organization for Migration mission in Algeria, presided on Sunday over the opening of a high-level workshop, organized by the ministry over two days, in partnership with the UN agency, on “the involvement of the national diaspora in national development efforts,” the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
During his speech on this occasion, Chaib emphasized that organizing this high-level workshop—the first of its kind—comes within the framework of strengthening Algeria’s role and standing in this emerging area of multilateral work by valuing national initiatives related to the engagement of the national community abroad, as well as sharing global best practices aimed at enhancing the community’s contribution to national development, the statement said.
He also highlighted the comprehensive national approach dedicated to actively involving the diaspora in all facets of their homeland’s development. This approach reflects the high level of attention bestowed by the country’s senior leadership on this vital segment of Algerian society and is manifested through a range of initiatives aimed at empowering the diaspora to fulfill its developmental role and to reinforce its bonds with the homeland, the source added.
For her part, the Head of the International Organization for Migration mission praised Algeria’s pioneering experience, which is based on integrating the diaspora into various national public policies. Moreover, she affirmed that this experience will strengthen multilateral cooperation in sharing best practices and exchanging expertise related to policies concerning the diaspora.
