N’DJAMENA – Chad’s ruling party won the legislative elections, securing between 122 and 124 seats out of 188 in the National Assembly, or roughly two-thirds of the total, provisional results showed on Sunday.
The “National Rally of Chadian Democrats” party, led by former Prime Minister Albert Pahimi Padacké, came in second but won just over ten seats. Approximately 30 other parties secured only one seat each.
Media sources noted that of the 184 political parties that participated, only 38 managed to secure seats.
Voter turnout was 51.56% for the legislative and regional elections and 50.41% for the municipal elections.
