Chad: 3-Day National Mourning to Honor Soldiers Killed in Terrorist Attack

Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno has announced a three-day national mourning period beginning Monday to honor the soldiers who lost their lives in a terrorist attack that took place from Saturday night to Sunday in Lake Province, in the northwest of the country. This was reported by local media on Tuesday, referencing a statement from the presidency.

“More than forty members of the Defense and Security Forces were killed in an assault in Barkaram, an island located west of Ngouboua in the Kaya department of Lake Province. In response to this tragedy, the Chadian president has declared a three-day national mourning period throughout the country, starting at midnight on Tuesday, October 29, and concluding on Friday, November 1, as a tribute to the victims,” stated the Chadian presidency.

During this mourning period, flags will be flown at half-mast, and all festive activities will be suspended. Only religious music and prayers will be allowed in media outlets and places of worship, according to the same source.
