Six epidemics, including one of Mpox, were active in the Central African Republic in January, affecting 12 of the country’s 35 health districts, according to an information note published by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs).

According to the note published Thursday by OCHA, 19 suspected Mpox cases, including three confirmed, were recorded between late December and early February.

Since December 2023, the cumulative total has reached 1,145 suspected cases, including 167 confirmed and nine deaths.

The response led by the World Health Organization includes strengthening epidemiological surveillance, targeted vaccination, and improving diagnostic capacities, OCHA said.

In addition, 641 suspected measles cases were recorded in January, a 13% increase compared to the previous month, including 48 confirmed cases.

The Kémo health district (central region) has exceeded the epidemic threshold, with children under five accounting for the majority of cases.

A meningitis outbreak has also been declared in the Bocaranga-Kouï district (northwest), with 34 suspected cases and six deaths recorded as of February 2, 2026.

Finally, two confirmed cases of yellow fever, including one co-infected with dengue, were reported in Bossembélé (west), while a third suspected case reported in Bossangoa (north) remains under analysis, according to OCHA.
