Call for a European Demonstration in Solidarity with Palestine on Saturday and Sunday

The European Coordination of Committees and Associations for Palestine, based in Brussels, has announced a European demonstration scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. The purpose is to advocate for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, an end to genocide, protection for the Palestinian people, and the suspension of the EU’s association agreement with the Zionist entity.

“We will coordinate demonstrations across Europe on Saturday, January 25, and gather in Brussels on Sunday, January 26,” the organization stated in its announcement.

The coordination also indicated its participation in a rally on Monday, alongside NGOs and European trade unions, just outside the European Council, aiming to “bring this demand closer to decision-makers.”

Highlighting that “the situation is dire, not only for Palestinians but for all of humanity,” the coordination calls for “broad and massive mobilization.”

In this context, it recalls that one year ago, on January 26, 2024, the International Court of Justice, prompted by South Africa regarding the situation in Gaza, made binding decisions. It recognized a genocide it deemed “plausible” and called for the cessation of attacks against civilians, the halt of infrastructure destruction, the end of the inhumane siege, and the stop to forced displacement of populations in the Palestinian enclave.

Several months later, the genocidal aggression by the Zionist forces against the population of Gaza “has intensified, particularly in northern Gaza,” the statement lamented.

“The population is starving, thirsty, deprived of medical care, and enduring harsh winter conditions. NGOs describe the situation as beyond anything they have ever encountered,” it added.

Referring to the situation in the occupied West Bank, the coordination states that “the population is increasingly besieged, threatened by the Israeli army and settlers; colonization efforts, ethnic cleansing, and land theft are accelerating at an unprecedented rate.”

“This situation threatens the very existence of the Palestinian people,” it warned, asserting that it “also insults our shared humanity and jeopardizes the very foundations of international law.”

According to the organization, “none of this would have been possible if the Western world, including the European Union, had not consistently shielded Israel from accountability while providing it with political support.”

“We demand an end to this impunity and the implementation of sanctions against Israel until it complies with international law,” it insisted, reiterating its call for “a lasting ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, the cessation of genocide, the end of occupation and colonization of Palestinian territory, the freedom of all detainees, the protection of the Palestinian people, and the autonomy of UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees).”

The coordination also calls for the suspension of the association agreement as long as the Zionist entity does not respect international law and human rights. “All institutions of the European Union and all member states must take their responsibilities and initiate the necessary procedures to ensure that this suspension is implemented as soon as possible,” it pleaded.
