CAF Awards 2024: Algerians Benbot and Gouiri Nominated

Two Algerian internationals have been nominated for the CAF Awards 2024: Oussama Benbot, goalkeeper for USM Alger in the Algerian Ligue 1, is in the running for Best Goalkeeper, while Amine Gouiri, striker for Stade Rennais in France, is nominated for Player of the Year. The awards ceremony is scheduled for Monday, December 16.
Gouiri has made a remarkable impact during the qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025, having scored three goals and helping secure the national team’s qualification—the Greens—for the final phase of the tournament, which will conclude with the last two matches between November 11 and 19.
The former Olympique Lyon player is competing alongside other prominent nominees including Edmond Tapsoba (Burkina Faso), Simon Adingra (Ivory Coast), Chancel Mbemba (DR Congo), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea), Achraf Hakimi (Morocco), Sofiane Rahimi (Morocco), Ademola Lookman (Nigeria), William Troost-Ekong (Nigeria), and Ronwen Williams (South Africa).
In contrast, Benbot faces competition from nine other goalkeepers: André Onana (Cameroon), Yahia Fofana (Ivory Coast), Lionel Mpasi (DR Congo), Mostafa Shobeir (Egypt), Djigui Diarra (Mali), Munir El-Kajoui (Morocco), Stanley Nwabali (Nigeria), Ronwen Williams (South Africa), and Amanallah Memmiche (Tunisia). The Algerian goalkeeper, who played a pivotal role in leading USMA to the semifinals of the previous edition of the Confederation Cup, is also nominated for the Best Interclub Player award.
Winners in each category will be determined by votes from a panel that includes members of CAF’s Technical Committee, media professionals, and coaches and captains from member associations and clubs involved in the group stages of interclub competitions.
