British Diplomat Tom Fletcher Appointed as U.N.’s new humanitarian chief

On Wednesday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced the appointment of British diplomat Tom Fletcher as the new undersecretary-general for humanitarian affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator at the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, succeeding Martin Griffiths.
The UN reported that acting U.N. humanitarian chief Joyce Msuya will continue to serve in her role as Acting Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator until Fletcher officially takes office.
Fletcher previously held the position of Director of Global Strategy at the Global Business Alliance for Education from 2015 to 2019 and led initiatives under former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown aimed at improving education for refugees. He also served as the UK Ambassador to Lebanon from 2011 to 2015.
