Brazzaville to Host WHO Regional Committee for Africa

Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo, will host the 74th session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for Africa from August 26 to 30. This significant event will gather health ministers from 47 African countries.

Participants will review and approve regional policies, activities, and financial plans to improve the health status and well-being of African populations during this annual meeting.

Nearly 500 attendees are expected, including Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General; Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, WHO Regional Director for Africa; health ministers from the 47 WHO member states in the African region; senior health ministry officials; representatives from UN agencies; civil society organizations; bilateral and multilateral organizations; and development partners.

Additionally, the 74th session will elect a new regional director to succeed Ms. Moeti.

Over five days, discussions will focus on topics such as “Transforming for Impact – Strengthening African Health Systems through WHO Reforms,” “WHO Investment Cycle: Amplifying Africa’s Voice,” “Addressing the Public Health Emergency of Preventable Child Mortality in the African Region,” and “Accelerating Cervical Cancer Elimination in Africa: Strategies and Partnerships for Person-Centered Prevention and Care.”
