Boughali Urges Arab Support for Palestinians from Tashkent

Brahim Boughali, the President of the Algerian National People’s Assembly (APN) and the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), has called from Tashkent, Uzbekistan, for a strengthening of collective Arab efforts to support the Palestinian people, according to a statement released on Friday by the lower chamber of Parliament.

During the proceedings of the 150th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), it was decided to present an urgent matter on behalf of the Arab group concerning the situation in the Palestinian territories, as noted in the same source.

Boughali, who chaired the Arab group’s meeting on the sidelines of the 150th IPU session, praised the level of cooperation and coordination among Arab parliaments. He emphasized “the pivotal role of Arab parliamentary diplomacy in defending Arab causes, foremost among them the Palestinian issue.”

In this gathering, which included the presidents and representatives of Arab parliaments participating in the 150th IPU session, Boughali stressed “the necessity of intensifying joint Arab efforts, particularly at the parliamentary level, to support the Palestinian people in light of the extermination war they are facing and to counter the policies of Zionist occupation aimed at erasing Palestinian identity.”

In this context, Boughali highlighted “the historic responsibility that Arab parliaments bear in voicing the plight of the Palestinian people to the international community,” reminding attendees that the IPU platform represents “a valuable opportunity to tirelessly advocate for the Palestinian cause until the Palestinian people achieve their freedom and independence and reclaim their land.”

These efforts are part of “activating the memorandum of understanding concluded between the APN and the AIPU, aimed at strengthening common Arab parliamentary action and defending the causes of the Arab nation across various regional and international forums.”

The agenda for this meeting included several issues, such as “presenting an urgent point on behalf of the Arab group regarding the situation in the Palestinian territories,” alongside “issuing a statement on behalf of the Arab group concerning the developments in Palestine,” according to the same source.

Additionally, there was a presentation of the activities undertaken by the Arab group since the 149th session of the AIPU, as well as the submission of candidates from the Arab group for vacant positions within the IPU bodies.

The meeting was further enhanced by the presence of IPU President Tulia Ackson and the President of the Arab Parliament, Mohammed Al-Yamahi, which “added a special political significance, reflecting the interest of Arab parliamentary leaders in the importance of uniting Arab ranks within international forums,” the source concluded.
