Bolivia: Rainy Season Claims 18 Lives and Affects 50,000 Families

Eighteen people have lost their lives, and more than 50,000 families across eight of Bolivia’s nine departments have been affected by the rainy season that began last November, according to a government official’s report on Thursday.
Twelve municipalities have been designated as disaster zones, while an additional 55 are grappling with significant challenges due to flooding and landslides, as noted by Deputy Minister of Civil Defense Juan Carlos Calvimontes.
He further indicated that heavy rainfall is expected to persist in the coming weeks, raising the risk of additional flooding.
“A coordinated emergency response plan is being developed with local mayors to mitigate the adverse effects of these extreme weather conditions and provide assistance to the affected communities,” he stated.
