Berlin urges Zionist entity to “abandon” plan to expand settlements in occupied Golan Heights

BERLIN – Germany called on the Zionist entity on Monday to abandon its plan to increase the number of settlers in the illegally occupied Golan Heights.

Emphasising that “from an international law perspective,” the territory occupied by the Zionist entity “belongs to Syria,” a spokesperson for the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Christian Wagner, said during a regular press briefing that Berlin urges the Zionist entity to “revoke this plan,” which was approved on Sunday.

The Zionist entity seized part of the Golan in southwestern Syria during the 1967 war, before annexing the territory in 1981.

Several countries and organisations have condemned the Zionist entity’s decision to “expand its settlement policy” in the occupied Syrian Golan, calling it a “blatant violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions.”

For the record, the United Nations General Assembly recently adopted a resolution affirming that the Zionist entity has failed to comply with UN Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981, which calls for the occupying power to “revoke its decision to impose its laws, jurisdiction, and administration in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.”
