Benin: 17 Militants Neutralized by Army After Foiled Terrorist Attack

The army of Benin announced that it had neutralized 17 attackers during a foiled terrorist assault and seized around ten motorcycles along with significant quantities of strategic equipment.

According to a statement released Tuesday evening by the Beninese army, one of its positions was attacked last Saturday in Pendjari National Park, near the border with Burkina Faso.

The attack aimed to destabilize a “strategic” position, the statement said.

Benin’s armed forces reported launching a swift counterattack carried out by ground troops supported by combat helicopters, which enabled them to pursue the attackers and neutralize them.

One Beninese soldier was killed in the exchange of fire, the army added.

For reference, at least 15 members of the Beninese Armed Forces were killed and four others wounded in a previous attack carried out by armed men in Kofouno, the army said, as reported Friday by media outlets.
