Belgium Backs South Africa’s ICJ Case Against Zionist Entity

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) announced on Tuesday that Belgium has joined the legal proceedings initiated by South Africa against the Zionist entity regarding genocide in the Gaza Strip.

Several countries have already joined the case before the United Nations’ highest court, based in The Hague, including Brazil, Ireland, Bolivia, Colombia, Spain, and Mexico.

In a resounding ruling delivered in January 2024, four months after the onset of the Zionist aggression against the Palestinian enclave, the ICJ urged the Zionist entity to prevent any acts of genocide, warning of a “real and imminent risk” of “irreparable harm” to the Palestinian people.

Without ruling on the merits of the case at that stage, the court issued several provisional measures, including requiring the Zionist entity to allow humanitarian aid access to Gaza and to prevent and punish any incitement to genocide.

While these orders are legally binding, the court lacks the concrete means to enforce compliance.

The Zionist aggression against the Gaza Strip has already claimed at least 70,942 martyrs and left 171,195 injured, displacing the overwhelming majority of the 2.2 million inhabitants of the Palestinian territory.
