Beijing Calls for Non-Interference and Equal Standards in Global Human Rights Governance

China has stressed the need to reject double standards invoked in the name of human rights and called on countries to uphold the “golden rule” of non-interference in each other’s internal affairs.
In a video address delivered on Monday during the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi underscored the importance of adhering to international law and strengthening the foundations of global human rights governance.
Wang emphasized that all parties should respect sovereign equality and avoid words and actions that create double standards under the pretext of defending human rights. He described the current international landscape as complex and intertwined, noting that global human rights governance and the international order established after the Second World War are facing new tests amid ongoing global changes.
He further called for safeguarding the original objectives of global human rights governance, stressing that the only viable path forward lies in advancing human rights in ways that align with each country’s national conditions and respond to the needs of its people.
Wang affirmed that China stands ready to work with all countries to promote shared development and prosperity, uphold international fairness and justice, defend the common values of humanity, and contribute to building a community with a shared future for all, ensuring that progress in human rights benefits the entire world.
