Bank of Algeria Reports 5.3% Growth in Loans to the Economy in 2024

Loans to the economy granted by the banking sector reached DZD11,256.5 billion at the end of 2024, an increase of 5.3% year-on-year, according to the Bank of Algeria’s annual report.

This trend reflects “stable financing dynamics,” the Central Bank said, noting that public banks accounted for 72.9% of overall credit growth, compared with 27.1% for private banks.

By legal status, outstanding loans granted to the public sector reached DZD4,567.6 billion at the end of 2024, compared with DZD4,458.6 billion a year earlier, up by 2.4%, according to the report published on the Bank of Algeria’s website.

The private sector benefited from DZD6,688.9 billion in financing, compared with DZD6,236.3 billion at the end of 2023, an increase of 7.3%.

The sectoral breakdown of loans shows that manufacturing industries remain the main beneficiaries, particularly through operating and investment loans, while the construction sector ranks second, benefiting mainly from long-term loans.
