Bangladesh’s Interim Government Demands India Hand Over Ex-PM Sheikh Hasina

Bangladesh’s interim government has formally demanded that India “immediately” hand over former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Khan Kamal, who were recently convicted in absentia, warning that providing them asylum would be considered “unfriendly conduct.”

The demand follows a ruling by Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal, which sentenced Sheikh Hasina to death for “crimes against humanity” committed during last year’s mass demonstrations that toppled her government.

In response, Indian authorities said they continue to engage “constructively” with all parties, signaling a cautious approach amid the diplomatic tension. Sheikh Hasina fled to India last year as protests against her rule escalated, leading to the deaths of over 1,400 people.
