Bangladesh : Resignations of top officials appointed by ousted PM Sheikh Hasina

DHAKA – Bangladesh’s chief justice, Obaidul Hassan, and Bank Governor, Abdur Rouf Talukder, resigned on Saturday as student protests that ousted Sheikh Hasina have expanded to target more officials appointed during her regime.

Additionally, four deputy governors had already been forced to resign after corruption accusations by around 300 to 400 bank officials.

Academically, the vice chancellor of Dhaka University, A.S.M. Maksud Kamal, has also resigned, as the university was the students’ battle ground when protests ignited in July against the job quotas law.

On the other hand, new appointments took place, including a police chief and a new head of the technical intelligence monitoring agency, as well as changes among senior army officials.
