Azerbaijan and Armenia Reach Full Consensus on Peace Agreement

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov announced on Thursday that all articles of the peace agreement with Armenia have been finalized, marking a major step toward resolving long-standing tensions. Speaking at a press conference in Baku, Bayramov stated that while Armenia had previously rejected two key provisions, it has now agreed to them, paving the way for a comprehensive settlement.
Relations between the two nations have been fraught since 1991, when Armenian forces occupied Karabakh and surrounding areas, despite international recognition of the region as part of Azerbaijan. The 2020 war saw Azerbaijan reclaim most of the territory, leading to a Russian-brokered peace deal that initiated normalization efforts.
In September 2023, Azerbaijan regained full control of Karabakh following a military operation that led to the surrender of separatist forces. With this latest agreement, both sides appear closer than ever to establishing lasting peace, though implementation and further negotiations will determine the stability of the accord.
