ADDIS ABABA — On the sidelines of the 38th summit of the African Union (AU), a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding Algeria’s voluntary contribution of one million dollars to support the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) was signed on Sunday in Addis Ababa by the Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of African Affairs, Selma Bakhta Mansouri, and the Chief Executive Officer for the APRM Continental Secretariat, Marie-Antoinette Rose Quatre.
The signing of the MoU, which aims to promote good governance in Africa, follows the announcement made by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, during the 34th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the APRM, held Friday under his presidency, to back this evaluation mechanism with a voluntary contribution of one million dollars.
On this occasion, the Secretary of State reiterated Algeria’s commitment—as an APRM founding member and under the good leadership of President Tebboune—to reactivate the mechanism to address Africa’s governance challenges, particularly cementing the rule of law, rooting out corruption and advancing democratic values.
Expressing her “immense gratitude” to Algeria for its voluntary contribution to support the APRM, Rose Quatre affirmed that this financial backing speaks volumes about “Algeria’s rock-solid dedication to African unity and cooperation.”
“I wish to convey my heartfelt thanks to Algeria for its trust in the APRM and for its unwavering commitment to pan-Africanism, African renaissance and the swift achievement of our peoples’ aspirations as outlined in our African Union’s Agenda 2063,” she noted in a statement to the press.
Rose Quatre expressed confidence that the Algerian government’s contribution “will certainly enable the APRM to execute its mandate and deliver concrete outcomes.”
