Attempts to Smuggle in Over 3000 kg of Cannabis from Morocco into Algeria Foiled

ALGIERS- Attempts to smuggle into Algeria more than 30 quintals of cannabis, through the border with Morocco, have been thwarted by combined Army detachments, in coordination with different security forces, over the period between 13 and 18 March, the People’s National Army said Wednesday in a statement.
“As part of the sustained counterterrorism efforts and the fight against organized crime, units and detachments of the People’s National Army carried out, during the period of March 13-18, 2025, many operations resulting in quality results reflecting the professionalism, vigilance and permanent readiness of our armed forces across the national territory,” the statement said.
In the fight against terrorism, “four terrorists surrendered to the military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar (6th Military Region). The terrorists, who had been operating in the Sahel region, were in possession of four submachine guns (Kalashnikov), a quantity of ammunition and various items,” the statement said.
The Army detachments arrested 14 terrorist supporters in different operations, according to the statement.
In the fight against organized crime and “as part of the sustained efforts to counter the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, combined detachments of the People’s National Army, in coordination with different security services, in operations conducted through different military regions, intercepted 41 drug traffickers and foiled attempts to smuggle in Algeria 3058 kg of cannabis, through the border with Morocco, while 720,548 psychotropic tablets were seized.”
