Attaf: The Africa–Russia partnership has matured sufficiently to serve as a key pillar in the pursuit of a more just international order

Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, reiterated on Saturday Algeria’s commitment to contributing to the realization of the priorities that have formed—and continue to form—the very core of the Africa-Russia Partnership Forum.
In his address at the Second Ministerial Meeting of the Africa–Russia Partnership Forum, held in Cairo, Attaf said that these priorities align, in both form and substance, with the objectives of Africa’s Agenda 2063 across its various dimensions and components, whether political and security-related, or economic and social.
From a political perspective, he emphasized the importance of African–Russian consensus in advancing the completion of the decolonization process, particularly across the African continent.
“Algeria, which hosted earlier this month an international conference on the legal criminalization of colonialism in clear and unequivocal terms, strongly supports the idea of establishing an international day to combat this abhorrent phenomenon, which has no rightful place—neither in today’s world nor in the world of tomorrow,” Attaf said.
From a security perspective, he welcomed the renewed African–Russian commitment to the principle of African solutions to African problems, particularly in the face of the escalating terrorist threats across the continent, as well as the rising tensions, crises, and conflicts.
“In addressing these challenges, our partnership must prioritize supporting national capacities, rejecting external interventions, and promoting political approaches and peaceful solutions,” he added.
From an economic perspective, he welcomed the growing level of African–Russian trade exchanges. “With the approach of 2030, we believe it is crucial to focus on enabling African countries to make up for delays in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as working together to ensure our continent does not fall behind in the ongoing revolutions in digital technology, robotics, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, and renewable energy.”
From the perspective of comprehensive institutional governance, Attaf said that Algeria commends the African–Russian understanding aimed at securing a fairer representation of Africa on the United Nations Security Council, as well as strengthening the continent’s representation within international banking, financial, and trade institutions.
In this regard, Ahmed Attaf expressed Algeria’s belief that the Africa–Russia partnership has matured sufficiently to serve as a key pillar in the pursuit of a more just and equitable international order.
“A system founded on international law as the ultimate authority, where all nations stand equal before it; a system based on multilateralism as a participatory approach that excludes no nation; and a system that elevates the role of our United Nations as a universal platform to resolve disputes, unify efforts, and strive for peace, security, and prosperity for all nations—without exception, favoritism, or discrimination.”
