Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, affirmed on Tuesday that the crisis in Mali should be resolved “through peaceful and inclusive political means.”
During a press conference held at the ministry’s headquarters, Attaf stated that “what Mali is witnessing today in terms of escalating terrorist threats that have reached unprecedented levels concerns and worries us more than others, and pains us more than others.”
He expressed hope that Mali’s leaders realize the solution to the crisis “can only be achieved through peaceful and inclusive political means,” specifically through “responsible dialogue and comprehensive reconciliation among all the people of this country, without discrimination or division, and away from any foreign interference, whether political or military.”
The FM explained that the source of this profound concern is twofold: Mali is Algeria’s immediate neighbour, and it stems from Algeria’s historical commitment to stand by all African countries facing crises and challenges, especially its continuous support for Mali since the country’s independence.
Attaf stressed that “Algeria has been and remains one of the strongest defenders and advocates of the preservation of the unity of the state of Mali, its land, people, and institutions.”
