Attaf delivers the Algerian president’s message to his Lebanese counterpart

BEIRUT – Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf was received on Sunday by Lebanese President, Joseph Aoun, as part of his official visit as a special envoy of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, according to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, the Minister of State delivered a written message from President Tebboune addressed to President Aoun. He also conveyed the Algerian president’s fraternal greetings and renewed his congratulations on President Aoun’s election, wishing him success in his esteemed responsibilities, the statement said.

On behalf of President Tebboune, Minister Attaf congratulated the Lebanese president on completing the procedures for forming the new Lebanese government, reaffirming Algeria’s solidarity and full support for Lebanon in its efforts to usher in a new era, focusing on institutional development and laying the foundations for peace, security, and economic growth, the source added.

According to the statement, the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the strong ties, solidarity, and cooperation between the two countries, with a focus on expanding these relations to the highest possible levels, particularly in the economic sphere. Additionally, the discussion further highlighted “Algeria’s readiness to continue to defend Lebanon from its position as an Arab member in the UN Security Council.”

In this regard, the two leaders addressed regional developments, particularly the latest updates on the Palestinian cause, and emphasised the importance of ongoing coordination in preparation for upcoming Arab events.
