At Least Two Killed in Russian Airstrike on Kyiv; Ukrainian Air Defenses Down 137 Drones

Ukraine reported on Monday that at least two people were killed and three others injured in an overnight Russian airstrike targeting Kyiv. The Ukrainian State Emergency Service said a four-story medical facility in the Obolonskyi district was struck, sparking a fire that was later brought under control. Twenty-five people were evacuated, and three were injured during the attack.

Kyiv region Governor Mykola Kalashnik confirmed that energy infrastructure was also hit, leaving the city of Slavutych temporarily without power. “Almost 8,500 families are without electricity. Energy workers are already working on restoration,” he said. Earlier, a person was reported killed in the Fastiv district due to the strike. Prior to the attacks, Kyiv authorities warned residents of approaching drones and urged them to take shelter.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of ongoing international support for Ukraine, stating on X, “Air defense is needed every day; funding for interceptor drones is needed every day; equipment for the energy sector is needed every day.” He added that Ukraine will work with European and American partners to ensure continued assistance. Separately, Ukraine’s Air Force claimed its air defenses shot down 137 of 165 drones launched by Russia overnight. Russia has not commented on the Kyiv strikes but said that Ukraine launched 44 drones at Russian territory overnight, nine of which were shot down over Moscow and surrounding areas.
