At Algeria’s Request, UN Security Council to Hold High-Level Meeting on Palestine

The Security Council will convene a high-level meeting focused on the Palestinian issue this Friday, at the request of Algeria, during the general debate of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf is scheduled to deliver a speech at this meeting, which will take place at 3 PM (8 PM Algerian time).

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is set to provide a comprehensive overview of recent developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and the broader Middle East, particularly in light of the escalation of operations by occupying forces.

The meeting will include participation from Security Council members as well as high-level delegations.

It is important to note that since October 7, 2023, Zionist occupying forces have been conducting a devastating assault on the Gaza Strip, resulting in over 41,000 casualties and more than 96,000 injuries. This has led to an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, with more than 85% of the population displaced, totaling approximately 1.9 million people.
