Arkab, Turkish minister of Industry, Technology discuss ways to step up cooperation

During a phone conversation with the Turkish Minister, Algerian Minister of Energy and Mines Mohamed Arkab emphasized the importance of continued bilateral coordination and praised the level of partnership between Algeria and Turkey, according to an official statement.

Arkab called for the exploitation of available opportunities and the strengthening of cooperation in hydrocarbons, renewable energy, the petrochemical industry, electricity transport, and joint project development in the mining sector — particularly in geological prospecting, exploration, exploitation, and mineral processing.

For his part, Turkish Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacır stressed the importance of deepening consultation and expanding partnerships between the two countries across various sectors. He reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to reinforcing its fraternal ties with Algeria, especially in the fields of energy, mining, and new and renewable energy, which he described as offering promising prospects for joint investment.

Both parties highlighted the historical and close relationship between Algeria and Turkey, which has seen remarkable progress in recent years under the leadership of Presidents Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. This includes intensified high-level political dialogue and stronger economic and trade exchanges.

Cooperation spans diverse fields such as oil and gas, renewable energy, infrastructure, and manufacturing industries, with growing Turkish investment in Algeria, particularly in energy and mining.

They also cited successful models of bilateral cooperation, including the joint petrochemical project between Sonatrach and the Turkish company Rönesans Holding in Ceyhan, Adana Province, Turkey. The ministers discussed collaboration between Algeria’s Sonarem and Turkey’s Tosyali in iron ore extraction and processing, as well as other ventures with Turkish companies like Özmet in mineral exploration and industrial transformation.

The phone call reflects the dynamic momentum in Algerian-Turkish relations, especially following the 12th session of the Algeria-Turkey Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation, co-chaired by Arkab and Turkish Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir on May 8, 2024, in Ankara.
