CAIRO – The Arab Parliament has strongly condemned the European Parliament’s statement regarding Algeria, describing it as “blatant and unacceptable interference” in the country’s internal affairs, Algeria Press Service reported on Saturday.
In a press release, the Arab Parliament called on the European Parliament to “respect the decisions of the Algerian judiciary and immediately cease such actions, which represent a clear violation of international norms.”
The Arab Parliament expressed “full solidarity with the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria” and urged the European Parliament “not to politicise human rights issues or use them as a pretext for unjustified and unacceptable interference in the domestic affairs of sovereign states.”
Additionally, the Arab Parliament reaffirmed that “Algeria is a country governed by laws and constitutional institutions, with independent decision-making and judicial authorities capable of ensuring the protection of freedoms, human rights, and freedom of expression for every Algerian citizen.”
The Arab Parliament also pointed out that “members of the European Parliament have remained silent and indifferent while human rights violations have taken place in Palestine and the Palestinian people have endured genocide before the eyes of the world,” stressing that “it is not for the European Parliament to lecture Algeria or Arab nations on law enforcement and the protection of freedoms,” the statement concluded.
