Arab League to hold emergency meeting on Al-Aqsa crisis, prisoners’ death penalty

Palestine’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Muhannad Al-Aklouk, announced that an extraordinary session of the League’s Council at the level of permanent representatives will be held on Thursday at the request of Palestine and with the support of member states, the WAFA news agency reported on Tuesday.

In a statement to WAFA, Al-Aklouk said the unanimously backed meeting will discuss measures to confront “Israeli” crimes and violations in occupied Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites, in addition to the approval by the Knesset of a discriminatory and invalid law permitting the execution of Palestinian prisoners.

In this regard, he called for immediate action to halt the law, prevent its implementation, hold the occupation accountable for its continuous violations, and impose sanctions for its clear breach of international law.

According to Palestinian figures, more than 9,300 Palestinians are currently held in occupation’s prisons, including women and minors. Many of the deaths reported were due to torture, starvation, and medical neglect, according to human rights groups.

This also comes as the Zionist occupation continues to keep Al-Aqsa Mosque closed for over 30 days, while restricting access and religious practices at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
