Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union Urges Global Action to Uphold Palestinian’s Rights

The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) called the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities, back support the Palestinian people and to defend their legitimate rights, in a statement signed by its Speaker Brahim Boughali, Speaker of the Algerian People’s National Assembly (lower house of Parliament).

“The Parliamentary Union called on the international community and national and regional parliaments to assume their legal and moral responsibilities, support the Palestinian people and defend their legitimate rights, most notably their right to establish their independent state, with Al-Quds as its capital, and to hold the occupation authorities accountable for their systematic violations that threaten international peace and security,” said the source.

The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union renewed its “firm solidarity with the steadfast Palestinian people,” reaffirming its full support “to all Arab, Islamic and international efforts aimed at ending the Zionist occupation, and restoring the inalienable national rights of the Palestinian people.” In this regard, the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union expressed its condemnation and denunciation of the continued serious violations committed by the Zionist occupation and its extremist settlers against the Palestinian people, which affects religious sanctities and constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions.

The Union “severely” denounced the storming the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque by the Zionist occupation forces and extremist groups and the accompanying acts of provocation of worshipers and attacks on the sanctity of the place, in addition to the heinous crime of the sinful attack on the “Al-Hajja Hamida” Mosque in the Palestinian village of “Kafr Haris”, aimed at obliterating the religious and historical identity of the Palestinian people.

In addition, the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union reaffirmed that “these repeated aggressive practices fuel circles of violence and extremism, and undermine all chances of achieving a just and lasting peace in the region,” stressing the nend to “force the Zionist occupation authorities to adhere to all signed agreements, especially the Gaza Agreement reached in the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh, as it represents a fundamental pillar for maintaining calm and reducing escalation.”
