Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union Stresses Dialogue and Peace on International Day of Peace

The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) reaffirmed Wednesday the imperative to foster the culture of peace and adopt constructive dialogue as the key to resolving differences and conflicts, on the occasion of the International Day of Peace observed annually on September 21.

In a statement signed by its President Brahim Boughali, Speaker of the Algerian People’s National Assembly (Parliament’s lower house), AIPU underscored the importance of promoting peace values rooted in universal principles, monotheistic religions, international humanitarian law and global conventions.

AIPU called for unified parliamentary and international efforts to boost cooperation and maintain stability while rejecting the cycle of war and conflict.

AIPU also called for taking a firm stance against parties that flout international law, particularly the Zionist entity, emphasizing the international community’s responsibility to uphold peoples’ right to self-determination and reject violence in all its forms.

Peace is not optional but essential to ensure a secure and prosperous future, by establishing genuine collective commitment that makes dialogue the only path to achieving security and sustainable development, the statement concluded.
